Smaller tiles for tilers and bigger savings for your renovation
Got a renovation to finish and a tight budget? Our newly received 450 x 450mm tiles are just $10m2. Here is the straight story: we carry them for limited uses, such as a basic indoor floor renovation where price comes first. We encourage you to compare better tiles before buying, especially for a forever home. Read Luke’s honest take below.
Why 450 x 450mm tiles are tiler friendly
There is plenty to like about a tile that is manageable to handle, set out and cut. The familiar 450mm square is a practical size for working around cabinetry and doorways, especially in a simple straight layout.
Stoneworld describes its Matang ceramic range as easy and cost-effective to lay, with pressed edges that help the tiler achieve a smooth finish. Keep the layout simple and ask your tiler to compare the installed cost with larger formats before you buy.
Luke’s advice is simple: “Make it dead flat, then tile. Don’t follow the waves in the existing concrete.” If the concrete is already suitably flat, a full screed may not be necessary. If it is uneven, ask your tiler to prepare it properly before laying. A cheaper tile is no reason to accept a wavy floor.
Small tiles that keep your budget in check
These tiles have been tested for strength and reliability. Their big attraction is the manageable size and the $10m2 price. For a cheap renovation, that leaves more money for the rest of the home. For a forever home, have a chat with Luke about our more modern ranges first.

Ask Luke about this tile
How do you rate this tile?
“Honestly, these 450 x 450mm tiles wouldn’t be my choice for a forever home. To my eye, they look average and feel like tile technology from 30 years ago. I have checked a box of this tile and the tiles are fine. For a cheap renovation, okay.”
“In my experience, when customers come in looking to replace broken tiles, it’s nearly always the 450 x 450mm size. So keep spare tiles for later on.”
“Sadly, my personal rating is 1 out of 10. I like to sell incredible quality tiles, rather than tiles I describe as fine. What I do appreciate here is the smaller size that tilers like and the cheap price.”

Are 450 x 450mm tiles cheaper to lay?
They can be, but prepare the floor properly first. Make it flat, then tile; do not follow the waves in the existing concrete. Ask your tiler whether screeding or another preparation method is needed, and include that work in the quote.
Why choose a smaller 450mm tile?
The square size is manageable to handle and cut, and our $10m2 offers help keep the tile purchase affordable. It is a practical option when the budget matters.
Can I use these tiles on a shower floor or outdoors?
No, these tiles are not recommended for that usage. Speak to our knowledgeable staff. We have hundreds of cost-effective options, but sadly, these tiles are not among them.
How much should I buy?
Have your tiler confirm the measured area, cutting allowance and spare quantity. Keep spare tiles from the same batch for later repairs, so you have matching replacements if a tile breaks.
